Jamie Lee Curtis, Russell Brand, Josh Brolin, Joe Manganiello and Craig T. Nelson are among those slated to appear during a virtual 50th anniversary celebration for Clare|Matrix.
The event, to be held Nov. 15 at 5 p.m. PST, raises funds for the organization which supports mental health and substance use treatment for underserved communities. Alonzo Bodden and Billy Gardell are teaming up to serve as hosts, and there will be a musical performance from a yet-to-be-announced guest. Additional funds will be raised to support the work of Clare|Matrix through a limited silent auction online which, among other items, offers bidders a chance to win a 10-minute private Zoom call with Curtis or Brand. The auction goes live Nov. 1 and viewers can donate as little as $50 to join the virtual event.
It could be argued that services like the ones offered by Clare|Matrix are more in demand than ever. The Clare Foundation and Matrix Institute on Addictions joined forces in 2018, and have been serving populations left most vulnerable due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Per reports this summer, the population of those experiencing homelessness increased by almost 13 percent and that was in June. As the pandemic stretches into the eighth month, it is expected to rise along with rates of substance abuse and mental health disorders.
As many as 10,000 citizens are served annually by the Clare|Matrix program with an additional 20,000 served by the Program Call Center. The Nov. 15 fundraiser provides an opportunity for the org to offer a continuum of care – from admission to aftercare – and individual services such as detoxification, residential and outpatient treatment, behavioral health and sober living.
